WHAT CETAD AFRICA DOES?
CETAD Africa is committed to advancing evidence-based trade policy advocacy that informs government decision-making on how trade and development can be effectively leveraged as instruments for poverty reduction, inclusive growth, and economic transformation. We work closely with governments, regional institutions, development partners, and private sector actors to design and promote policies that enhance the developmental impact of trade in Africa and other developing regions.
We provide specialized advisory and consultancy services to both firms and public institutions, assisting them in maximizing the opportunities offered by preferential trade arrangements and market access initiatives granted to least developed countries (LDCs) by advanced economies. Our support includes helping businesses understand trade regulations, comply with international standards, improve export readiness, and identify new market opportunities in regional and global markets.
As part of our capacity-building mission, CETAD Africa organizes policy dialogues, technical workshops, executive training programs, and stakeholder seminars aimed at strengthening institutional and human capacity in trade policy, regional integration, industrialization, and private sector development. We also produce and disseminate policy briefs, research reports, and analytical studies that provide practical recommendations for policymakers and industry leaders.
At CETAD Africa, we firmly believe that entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and local industries are critical drivers of structural transformation, innovation, job creation, and sustainable development. We therefore promote policies and initiatives that support enterprise development, value addition, youth and women entrepreneurship, and the integration of African firms into regional and global value chains.
In addition, we actively facilitate global market linkages for local industries by connecting businesses with international partners, investors, and export opportunities. Our work also emphasizes the importance of regional trade integration, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area, as a pathway toward industrial growth, economic diversification, and enhanced competitiveness for African economies.
A core component of CETAD Africa’s work involves rigorous research and policy analysis on the effects of international and domestic economic policies on firm performance, employment creation, food security, inequality, and poverty reduction in developing countries and LDCs. We assess how trade agreements, tariffs, taxation policies, exchange rate movements, and other macroeconomic policies affect businesses and the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, especially vulnerable populations. Through this evidence-based approach, CETAD Africa seeks to contribute to the formulation of policies that foster resilient economies, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable and inclusive development across Africa.
